Clonmany Graves Index and DNA searching 30.01.26

THE Clonmany Genealogy & Heritage Group will host a special information evening focusing on the ongoing Graves Index surveys and DNA searching on Wednesday, 4th February 2026, in the Market House, Clonmany, beginning at 6:30 pm. Admission is free.

Members of the Clonmany Genealogy & Heritage Group will be available to answer questions relating to the recent Graves Index surveys carried out in the three parish graveyards. Attendees who are unsure about any aspect of the process, or who would like assistance completing alteration sheets, are warmly encouraged to attend.

Mr Marcas Ó Murchú wll give an illustrated talk at 8pm on the rapidly developing field of genetic genealogy. This engaging presentation will inform attendees about the Gedmatch website and demonstrate, in two simple steps, how DNA results can be used to identify both paternal and maternal connections.
Marcas will explain how to determine how many generations back a shared ancestor lived and show which DNA segments were inherited from common ancestors - providing clear, practical answers to questions often raised by avid DNA and family tree researchers, and by those who received DNA tests as Christmas or Birthday presents.

Marcas is a former teacher, a musician well known throughout Inishowen, and a researcher with many years’ experience in genetic genealogy. He brings expertise and enthusiasm to this fascinating subject, and it promises to be an informative and enjoyable evening for anyone with an interest in family history, heritage, or DNA research.
